In Chinese religion, the seventh lunar month of each year is the time when the gate to the underworld opens and ghosts visit to the human world. During Ghost month, people honor their ancestors by offering food and fruits because they believe that holding this feast for the spirits would give them a break from all suffering in hell. It would also prevent them from disturbing the living beings.
